DS1 Diameter Sensor (DIY Kit)

The DS1 diameter sensor is an ARTME 3D® kit for building a sensor to measure filament diameters ranging from 1.5 to 2 mm. The kit is supplied with all the necessary components. Only the 3D printed parts need to be printed yourself and some tools are needed.
Please note that a different firmware must be installed on the extruder to use the sensor. Here is a step by step guide for this.

Key features:

• Low-cost filament diameter sensor for use with ARTME-3D extruders.
• Measurement tolerance of the overall system during filament production: +/-0.02 mm.
• You can read the diameter on the display and activate an additional automatic mode to achieve the desired filament diameter with less manual intervention. This feature was implemented by our partner Formaké3D. You find details in his documentation on github.
• When connecting the extruder to an Raspberry Pi you can also track the machine data via a web interface.

Scope of delivery:

• 8 wood screws
• 1 cylinder head screws
• 1 optical light barrier (tested by hand before shipping)
• 3 ball bearings will
• 1 cable ties
• 1 protective sleeve
• 1 compression spring

Important to know:

• The sensor is delivered as a kit for self-assembly.
• The 3D-printed parts are not included in the kit. You can find them for self-printing here.
• The measurement result is temperature-dependent, making it necessary to calibrate the sensor after prolonged operation or in the event of fluctuations in room temperature.
• You will also need:
  • Good digital caliper
  • Phillips screwdriver (small, PZ1) 
  • Allen wrench 3mm
  • Side-cutting pliers
  • Hammer or vise
  • Lighter
